No Output to Blackmagic Intensity Pro with Mercury Transmit
on Jul 15, 2014 at 1:08:06 am

Hi,

Having trouble here with Mercury Transmit in AE CC2014 with BMD Intensity Pro, Windows 7, drivers version 10.1.1.

I have the Intensity going out to A BVM series CRT (which can take 1080I) via component as well as a Sony Bravia via HDMI. I can't get a signal out to either with my Comop at 1080/25 or 720/25 but have no problem if I set the comp to DV PAL, which is pretty useless given that we don't finish anything in SD any more

The default output setting in the BMD control panel also seems to have no bearing on the output.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Daniel

Update: A 1080/24 Comp produces a signal that the Bravia can see. Still no luck with 1080/25 or 720/25. Ideally I would like to be able to output PsF, but even straight up progressive isn't working at the moment.

720p25 isn't a valid SDI signal format so that won't work in any case. What are the EXACT input specs of your monitors? Maybe you're trying to send them a signal they can't show.

If the Bravia is handling 24 frame media then likely it doesn't have support for most PAL frame rates especially via HDMI. Often times the TV manufacturers only program the firmware based on the market the TV will be sold in. It is not uncommon to have EU and NA to have variations of the same model with the differences firmware only. Also keep in mind the EU has more stringent laws regarding the makeup of electronics such as panels due to environmental laws. This means the manufacturers have to run different production lines for these devices anyway which further increases the likelihood of different firmware versions.

[EricBowen] "If the Bravia is handling 24 frame media then likely it doesn't have support for most PAL frame rates especially via HDMI. "

Most fairly fresh (like 7-8 years maybe more) Eurozone TV's support pretty much every specced SD-720p-1080i/p formats through HDMI including 24 and 23,976. If it's a bit older model it might not support 1080p25 but it would work if you gave it an interlaced signal, which might be the case here.

Well the OP said it would work with DV PAL so I'd wager it's a EU TV. I feel really bad for US if they can't get non-crippled TVs. That's just sad.

Hmmm, thanks for the replies. I'm actually in Australia. Basically, I need to be able to output a valid HD signal as I'm primarily working on 1080P25 projects. I.E. I need to output 1080 PsF25. I used to be able to do this, before Mercury Transmit came in to the equation.

If I am correct, it is now impossible to output a valid signal from AE via mercury transmit whilst working on 1080/25 composition. It seems absurd that Adobe would release such a crippled monitorin solution.

I work in Resolve a lot as well, and from Resolve I am able to output 1080/25PsF (or any other format for that matter) from a project of any resolution.

The thing about Mercury Transmit is that it outputs the signal with the comp or timeline settings. If your monitor/IO doesn't support that you get nothing and you can't make comps with fields in AE so you get nothing.

I'm in the same boat. My monitor doesn't support 1080 25fps so I get nothing. Strangely, if I work at 2k 16:9 25fps then I get a signal although the resizing quality of it is absolutely shocking. Seems like a bit of an oversight not to give us a 25pfs option like it had before mercury transmit.
