Is there a way to undo precompose? Sometimes I need to access the effect control of the nested layers inside a precomp and at the same time see the original composition.

In Houdini this is made simple, while you can pin point the composition view while you dive into the nestet clips or other compositions.
Then you can do changes in the nested clips while you can see how this affects the whole composition.

Although Ctrl-Z will do the job, you may be in a position of having done the pre-compose too far back for this to work. There is a script, of course:

You can also open a new comp viewer and set it to your main comp. The original viewer will remain on whatever the active timeline is, so you can go into the nested comp and change parameters and immediately see the effect in the main. Quite handy
