Hey guys just wanting to know how to cut/mask specific parts of an image from a larger image. atm i am using different layers from photoshop and saving each one and opening that up in AE to do 2.5D but ive seen it done where you just use a flat image and mask what parts you want to move but i cant remember how its done. THanks

I'm not sure I quite understand what you're talking about. Is it this?

The process is basically the same, whether you do it in Photoshop or After Effects.

In Ae, you'd duplicate the flat photo layer, once per plane you wish to isolate (i.e., background, midground, foreground, etc.) and use the mask tool [link] to cut them out.

You'll also need the clone stamp tool [link] to fill in the lower layers.
