Lock audio track to video track?
on Jun 6, 2014 at 5:44:35 pm

I want to lock an audio source recorded on a separate device to a video track (dialogue) so that when I move the video track left or right on the timeline the audio track moves with it.
I tried making the video track a parent and hiding the audio shy layer (so it didn't take up space) but it apparently won't lock together that way. Solution?

Thanks in advance
Ian

Precompose the video and audio.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, of course I can do that, but certainly there should be a way to do this in the timeline since it is such a common task. Anyone else want to chime in?

It is not a common task for AE. This sounds more like something you would do in a video editing program. AE is not really made to do video editing.

Precomposing will do exactly what you ask for. You even specify that you don't want to see the audio layer. This makes them both one layer and locks them together.

OK thanks. I guess it could possibly be done with a script.
I do thirty second commercials and do the whole thing in AE so it would help me. I just pick out clips in Premiere.

You could use a time-remapping expression to link one to the other, but precomposing is the simplest and best solution. You cannot group layers.
