I don't seem to be able to use one of my old favorite plugins in AE CC.

I've placed Obvious Effects Erodilation Plugin in CC's plugin folder, but it doesnt see it.

Any tips? Erodilation was good for growing the bounds of a layer, good alternatives?

Is there a specific reason older plugins wont work now?

That is a rather old plug-in.

Since After Effects CS5, plug-ins must be 64-bit.

Ae ships with a Grow Bounds effect, and Red Giant Software has RGS Ground Bounds, which I think ships with the Trapcode effects.

Grow Bounds was the wrong phrasing. What I want to do is expand out around the alpha of my layer. Essentially I want to outline my alpha with 1 pixel, then 2, and so on.

I can get a workable effect with a Layer Style/Glow, but then you have to precompose it for my purposes which is mildly as hassle in terms of ease of editabilty. Also Erodilation could push out the colors as well as the alpha, which was handy.

Any tips on a new way to do this?

If it was up to me, I would let AE use any old plugin, but maybe tell you "This plugin is not 64 bit, and may slow down performance."

It looks like ObviousFX is still around. Have you downloaded the latest version, and/or contacted their support?

Sounds like a nifty plugin. I'm still on CS6 so I'll have to give it a try.
Their reverse telecine plugin sounds really handy too.

As for your question about growing the alpha, have you tried the built in matte choker and simple choker tools? They can be set to a negative value to expand the alpha.
