Recently, I've been helping out a friend with their college film project. They put me on as their VFX supervisor and had me do the main effects for the film, yet my friend did not setup their greenscreen lighting sequences up correctly resulting in a difficult keying job (I'm upset I wasn't able to attend the shoot day to fix the setup, but too late now).
I've been using a combination of Red Giant's Primatte, AE's Rotobrush, Keylight, and the Extract tool to key out scenes, but this has resulted in poor results.
Examples of scenes I have to key/roto.
The results are spotty due to shadows, and require intense masking to remove excess black. Keying around the person's hair is hair-pulling tedious, and because these scenes have to be composited into harsh daylight scenes the challenge becomes even more tedious.
I fear I will have to continue going full rotobrush with this job as I really don't see another way around it, but does anyone have any ideas on how to key the person out more effectively?
