Could anyone help with this effect I am trying to achieve.

I have a green screen clip of an actor and I am trying to get the effect of the edges of the character emanating outwards / dissolving, almost like streaks of smoke, and using the colouring of the edge where it came from. Also, as the character moves, this effect must stay with the edge. I want this to be subtle as it's hinting that the character is a ghost. I have tried a few things, but just can't quite get the right combination and now could do with fresh ideas. For example, I've tried getting particular to create particles, but can't get them to look right or emanate from the edges properly. I've tried edge finder and turbulent displacement. I've even tried a variation of VideoCopilots solar flare.

Some inspiration from the community would be greatly appreciated.

Howzabout this - duplicate the keyed layer and scale it up. Place it behind the original. Adjust the duplicate's opacity and Blending Mode and apply a distortion effect. Oh, you may want to set the duplicate's Anchor Point to the center of the character prior to scaling - some motion tracking may be required.

Thanks, I have started experimenting with this method and looks promising. I need to get the right combustion of distort / blurs now

Hi,
I can't put the footage online, but it is straight forward green screen shot of actor. One wide shot, a couple of mids and a close up. There is not much movement other than other than the character talking, although the last CU shot he steps out of shot, nothing that can't easily be tracked.
