Hey guys, I was wondering if there was a way to fix or reduce the banding going on in this video I shot? This are the tools I used to shoot it:

5D Mark III
Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)
ISO 12800
Highlight Tone Priority D+

This is the file straight out of the camera, there is no post processing.

Ugh. It won't be fast.

H.264 -- the codec of the footage -- throws away a TON of color information as it's recorded, so you can't do anything about that.

But you can try a test working in 32 bits, using a very short section of the footage, and adding AE's noise reduction effect... or is it the reduce noise effect?

Whichever it is, it will be VERY slow to render. First, the noise reduction effect is just plain slow. Second, H.264 forces AE to look forward & backward in time to build a complete video frame, which it then uses to reduce noise.

Try converting it to Cineform and see if it's any better.
