Hello,

I am a bit new to after effects and also to element 3D. I am still messing around but I can not get it to work. In my composition I made a solid, applied element, and chose a bit of text as a custom mask or text. When I set up the scene and press extrude the text appears, I also tried it with a mask but it was a bit squished. When I apply a preset to it, nothing changes. Also I do not seem to be able to rotate my object in the preview within element. It does update when I change certain settings with scale and edges but that's it. What could I be doing wrong? I checked my GPU, it is good enough and my drivers are up to date.

Thanks!

Tim -

While there's nothing wrong with being new to AE (we all were once), remember that you can do nothing better than working your way through the tutorials on Adobe TV's AE Channel:

http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-after-effects-cs6/

Although you don't say what version you're on, if it's CC, you can find a channel for that as well. As far as Element 3D, follow Todd's advice, and also work your way through all of the Element 3D tutorials on the Video Copilot site. "Messing around" as you say, will only get you in trouble, and keep you frustrated. You could be doing everything wrong, and if you have no idea what's the right way to do it, you're screwed. Take the time to work through the tutorials; no one ever mastered a software package by ignoring the manuals and tutorials.

Regarding Joe's recommendation of Adobe TV:

There are good things there, yes, but I prefer to direct people here for getting-started materials:
