Every guide I look up tells me how to remove items in front of a green screen, but I want to do the opposite. I have animated tiles folding onto a white background, and I want the tiles to be visible while the white background is transparent.

It should normally be as easy as using Ultra Key and adjusting the transparency, tolerance, etc in Premiere, but this is a recording of an old game and there's lots of noise. I made the background layer red to show where the primary layer is giving me trouble as far as transparency goes.

I honestly don't care if I have to individually mask each frame and specify which parts should be transparent and which parts to leave alone (since removing all white would obviously cause a problem) but I'm very new with After Effects and this happens to be the first thing I want to do.

Thanks in advance.

You could try the Extract effect (which will allow you to make a luma or brightness key), but if there is white inside the frames, you may need to resort to masking.
