3D in Photoshop was a very bad idea. It never worked well, and certainly not as well as Adobe hoped. It is G-O-N-E, gone.
Adobe got rid of that feature with CS6. I guess it's time for Plan B.
Now, AE CAN make extrusions of text from Illustrator. Just watch out for layer style problems, and expect it to be glacially slow without the proper third-party card, and simply slow with the proper card... a list of which can be found on the Adobe web site under AE's system requirements.

The nVidia 5000K is a good card for AE's Ray-tracing. You can extrude Text and Shape Layers in AE. When the comp's renderer is set to Ray-tracing, working in Draft or Fast Draft preview is really fast. I suggest you give it a try.
