Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm on Windows 7 x64, AE:CC. I have a PSD file made in PS:CC. It has 3 folders and many sub-folders. When I import my PSD into my project and choose composition as my option then import. I will then double click on my main comp, from there I noticed that my folders which were named Animate, Source, and Intro have now added a number 2 at the end.

Why is this happening?

Also, it does not happen to my other PSD files I'm working on which were created the same way with the same method. Nothing really changed but the graphics.

It looks like a lot of your sub folders and assets share the same name. AE is trying to differentiate between these items with the same name by adding a modifier (the number) to the end, so you know it's two different things

I thought that might be the issue, but it was not, my folders do not duplicate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/57qh9qj0fo8ryn1/12-11-2013%208-10-13%20AM.png

I made a video which shows what happens when you click on the Source Name and Layer Name sort option:

This is a bug. I was able to reproduce the problem on my computer. Sorry about the hiccup. The good news is that this bug doesn't happen in the update for After Effects that we're releasing later this week.

This is an accidental side effect of a change we made in After Effects 12.1 for the Copy with Property Links feature. Property links (expressions) require unique layer names, so to make sure the links work smoothly AE 12.1 will automatically increment any non-unique layer name. This bug occurs because the automatic name-incrementing code is incorrectly being called when a Photoshop file is imported as a comp.

We got feedback from many users that forcing all layers to have unique names caused logistical problems, so in the next update to After Effects we have reverted the automatic name-incrementing to work the way it used to: layer names are incremented only when an expression is created (including pasting property links) which references a non-unique layer name.

The After Effects CC (12.2) update was released yesterday. This problem with Photoshop layers does not happen there. Let us know how it works for you when you've tried with the updated version.
