Hi Guys,

I'm all out of ideas with this...
I'm trying to get a shape layer to do this;

Any advise? also tips to control it (amplitude, speed, wave length etc...)

Thanks,
J

It looks as if it may have been done in a 3D package, but you could do it in AE with Vector "ribbons", each a separate 3D layer. Since the animation of each ribbon is pretty much identical, you could create the animation using the first vector ribbon, then duplicate it and change the colors, make all of the layers 3D Layers, then Precomp them, and add a Camera. And, of course, since the layers are flying past the camera in the frame, you would want to make your ribbon layers multiples of the final frame width.

This might also be something you could do with Form, MIR, or Particular, but you don't say whether you have any of these, or what version of AE you intend to use.

Thanks for the reply,

At first glance it looked like something AE should be able to handle easily, As its flat and somewhat common looking.

I would love to do this without external plugins. I'm not sure what you mean by -- Vector "ribbons"? is this a plugin/preset?

I have CS6, also Particular.

how would you do this in particular?

Sorry I didn't explain that - no such plugin - it's going to be all hand work. By Vector, I meant that you would create the ribbons in a Vector program such as Illustrator - you could also get away with doing it in Photoshop with a bit more work.

Here's a tutorial on how to do a similar effect using Particular:

In particular you could do it by using multiple lights as your emitters. Each light would be a different color. I made simple project where I rotate the lights with a null and used wind to push the particles, but you could also just use the emitter tools to move the particles also.

Anyway, take a look at this project, it should give you some ideas on how to proceed with your project.
