I'm stumped on how to make the glow appear from the background to the foreground.
This is what I've attempted so far: I have a black solid, and in one of the layers with Particular, I've obscured it with that solid layer. By moving this layer through the z-index, I can kind of make the opposite happen (foreground to background). I've also tried moving the emitter from the back to the front but it wasn't the same effect since the glow wasn't coming from new particles but ones that are already existing.

Create your Particular layer, then duplicate it. On the bottom layer, apply a glow and animate Particular's Visibility parameters together (Far Vanish, Far Start Fade, Near Start Fade, Near Vanish) to control the depth at which particles are visible.
