Linking Emitter position to parented Layers
on Apr 18, 2013 at 2:36:19 pm

O.k. here is my problem

i have a charakter that is connected to a Null (Null 1) that i use to animate the position of the charakter.
This Null is parented to another null (Null 2) that is using a wiggle expression, so that i have seperate control over the wiggle effect.

Now i need a particle emitter that follows the whole movement, meaning both the animated position of the Null 1 + the wiggle of Null 2.

I hope it´s clear what i mean, any tips, on how to make that happen?

thank you....

You'll need to use an expression. Something like this:

l = thisComp.layer("Null 1");
l.toWorld(l.anchorPoint);

That should give you the location of Null 1 in world units. This can be applied to a property expecting a position. If you're using Particular then the position is broken into two properties and you'll need the above on the XY position and the below:

l = thisComp.layer("Null 1");
l.toWorld(l.anchorPoint)[2];

on the Z position.

If you're using Particular then you can link a Light to your first Null, name the light Emitter and select that as the partiocle emitter in Particular.
