Seamlessly joining two moving videos together?
on Feb 6, 2013 at 11:57:56 pm

Hi

I'm trying to join two and more moving/panning clips together;
I filmed several passes of my girlfriend's legs, accentuating (with lighting) the line that is formed wherever one of her extremities touches her body. The idea is to form one continuous line from the many passes I made side to side of her legs, arms, etc.
To do this I think I need to have one clip move out of frame to fit the next clip into view, as well as merging the two clips together where they meet to make it a seamless transition. I'm not sure if this makes any sense or if i'm explaining it right but I'll answer any questions if you need clarification.
In any case, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would start by experimenting with feathered masks. You don't say which version of AE you're using, but CS6 has made some magnificent strides in mask feather control. Here's a nice rundown on the control you can achieve:

Thanks for the video! I think it'll help a lot when I get to joining the two clips together but I still haven't figured out how to basically have a series of clips, side by side, pass by the frame seamlessly, like one long chain. These clips are already moving (panning from left to right) so I figure I have to have the clip playing static, in one spot until it reaches the end and then slide that clip to the side out of frame while introducing the next clip into view.

I'm trying to figure out whether the camera tool would work but I haven't a strong grasp of it quite yet...

One way to get the "chain" effect is to parent each layer to the first. If you're moving right to left in the screen space, parent your other layers to the first one on the left. Then just move the first one, and the others will follow.
