Hey everyone,

We are having an issue where when dragging in DPX footage from the FINDER into the project window AE will always bring in footage at 23.976. We want to force it to 24 and have already set input preferences to import footage sequences at 24. When importing from inside AE it works fine, but we have multiple sequences that we would like to just drag in from the finder and I really dont want to re-interpret each sequence.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Eric

Interpret just one Sequence with 24 fps. Now select the footage in Project Panel, Right Click and Select Remember Interpretation .

Now select all the sequences, right click and select Apply Interpretation.

I might be wrong but I think frame rate can be included as part of the header of the DPX file. If that's the case it might be overriding the AE default when you drag and drop.

Just a suggestion. Don't know for sure.

Yes, the DPX header can contain frame rate.

Please be aware that if you override the default frame rate, you will effectively change the sequence's duration and break sync with the soundtrack if that is being processed elsewhere. It's critical to make sure everyone on the production is on the same page here.

Conrad

I think you are right. it might be possible.

The frame rate is included in the header of DPX file.

Film Information Header
The first industry header contains information used by the motion picture film industry. The information in this header describes the film and camera source from which the image frame data was derived. This header is 256 bytes in size and has the following format:

typedef struct _IndustryFilmInfoHeader
{
char FilmMfgId[2]; /* Film manufacturer ID code */
char FilmType[2]; /* File type */
char Offset[2]; /* Offset in perfs */
char Prefix[6]; /* Prefix */
char Count[4]; /* Count */
char Format[32]; /* Format */
DWORD FramePosition; /* Frame position in sequence */
DWORD SequenceLen; /* Sequence length in frames */
DWORD HeldCount; /* Held count */
SINGLE FrameRate; /* Frame rate of original in frames/sec */
SINGLE ShutterAngle; /* Shutter angle of camera in degrees */
char FrameId[32]; /* Frame identification */
char SlateInfo[100]; /* Slate information */
BYTE Reserved[56]; /* Reserved field used for padding */
} INDUSTRYFILMINFOHEADER;

Though there is a method to change it.

I hope you really know what you're doing on this one. Such a frame rate change is usually done on a duplicate, completed file just before it's delivered.
