Scaling down large graphic-Stuttering playback
on Dec 29, 2012 at 5:25:20 pm

Hello all,
I have a project where my display is 1792x768. I am using Dataton's Watchout to do an edge blend to create this resolution. The client would like to have a still graphic scale down over 3 minutes during the performance. It is a slow scale down. So I created a graphic that is 4 times the size of my display. They are just squares that scale down. The graphic is 7168x3072 now and I was going to take it into After Effects and scale it down to 1792x768 over 3 minutes. I understand that a graphic with the size 7168x3072 is huge and when I export the movie it has a hard time playing back smooth at 1792x768. It seems like the video will stop occasionally then start back up. I was wondering if anyone had an idea on how to make this playback smooth.
I have an iMac 10.7.5/3.4GHz/i7/8gig Ram
Thanks,
Brent

Is there a good reason why you're not using Shape Layers for the squares?

The information is incomplete.

What codec you have used for rendering? Is it lossless or compressed?

If it is Lossless, the playback will have some problem.

Also, Using Scale Parameter creates Jerk if the values are too big because of the math used in scale.

I would suggest you to make the comp 3D and then displace is in Z - axis to mimic the scale effect.

I am using mpeg 2 to export my video. I could use any type of codec from qt to wmv but Watchout would prefer mpeg 2. Also I forgot to mention that the graphic is an illustrator file originally. I converted it to a rasterized file and was trying to use Premiere to scale the graphic originally. I have to make sure the squares start out being 2'x2'in size when projected then shrink down over time. So I made them 128 pixels x 128 pixels for my pixels per foot ratio to make them 2'x2'.

Is the issue during playback after render, during RAM preview in AE or both?
