Can you still get AE in Cs 5 or Cs 6 versions, stand-alone, without having to buy the entire bundle? Where?

Here's info that can help:
http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/buying-guide.html

Adobe only sells CS6 now, and you CAN get AE as a stand-alone application. However, you'll lose the ability to use Dynamic Link, which makes it tough to go from Premiere Pro to AE and back again.

Depending on your current version of AE, you may be able to buy and upgrade, which would be a lot less than the first-time retail purchase price of a thousand bucks.

Thanks, Dave. I sent your info off to the procurement elves to see what happens.

Well, here's something else to send off to the procurement elves. I just got an Adobe email, which says in part:

"CS6 upgrade pricing for CS3 and CS4 customers expires on December 31, 2012"

So if you have an old version, you may be able to dodge a price bullet.

My advice- go for the monthly subscription- all the software and more always updated- the finance elves should like that.

If I'm just interested in the Production Premium apps then its $1800 to buy and probably $750 every two years to upgrade to the latest version.

The A-Cloud is $1200 every two years.

So if I stick with the non-Cloud I break even at about the four-year mark and then it gets cheaper. $375/year vs. $600/year.

Of course, the $225 difference is less than what most pro's make in short day's work so what's the big deal I guess.

On the other hand many pro's make due with a bundle that's a few versions old without any problems. So if I don't mind not being totally up-to-date with versions I could spend even less.

Oh, the math!

Tim
