why is it when i rasterize a comp, an object inside that comp then shifts to a different position? can i have it rasterize but not do that?

I'm guessing that you mean the Continuously Rasterize/Collapse Transformations switch in the Timeline.

Its the second half of that pair that may cause position to shift when you invoke it.

It's actually keeping it's position. You're just seing it through another camera.

If you just want to upscale to avoid jagged edges. Use the scale composition script and reduce that composition's scale accordinly in your main comp.

This happens when you build a comp using 3D layers, then you nest it inside another comp and turn on the switch. It becomes a 3D object with its anchor point centered horizontally & vertically and z at zero.
