I have some test hand held footage i shot, its a bit jerky,

shot on a 5d at a higher shutter speed to see if it helps with tracking.

anyway, i have a question,

if i took this footage into AE, stabalised it, and then exported the stabalised version into my match mover (blender) would it be better? is this a workflow used?

or should i get it near finished then stabalize?

just looking for some pointers on workflow.

thanks
Josh

Your biggest worry would be with any rolling shutter artefact. Remove that if it exists (hopefully you shot a grid pattern to guide you).

Once that is done, it doesn't really matter if you stabilize or matchmove first. In fact I would rather matchmove first since stabilization may introduce slight warping which will preclude any decent matchmove solve.

I actually dont have a grid, still working out the ins and outs of shooting this stuff.

I have seen a grid used for correcting/matching lens distortion, is this the same grid? and is it specific?

[Josh Brine] "I have seen a grid used for correcting/matching lens distortion, is this the same grid?"

YUP!

[Josh Brine] "is it specific?"

I don't understand what you mean by "specific". You should be able to create one from a spreadsheet. Print it out and then paste it onto a board.

BTW, mochaAE/Pro 3.1 has a new AE plugin that caters to lens distortion issues. More info here.
