Getting 2D track data into AE
on Nov 7, 2012 at 8:10:00 pm

I have a text file that contains exported data from PF Track. It contains 2D tracker information that I want to use in AE. How would I apply this data to a 2D AE null?

The data is in this format:

# "Name"
# clipNumber
# frameCount
# frame, xpos, ypos, similarity

"Eye InnerL"
1 888.875000 646.375000 1.000000
2 889.500000 646.218750 0.993040
3 889.656250 646.250000 0.992075

you might try to hack ae's clipboard for position data and fool it into pasting your data -- which sounds more complicated that it is -- try this...

in ae, create a simple position animate (two keyfames should be enough). then select them and choose edit>copy.

then open a text editor and choose paste. you should see something that looks similar to what you have above.

delete the numerical data that was just pasted (bellow the 'frame,' x pixels, 'y pixels,' 'z pixels' header and above the 'end of keyframe data') and paste in the data that you have (bellow the 119 line).

you'll want to use a single tab between values and i think you'll also want to delete the last column of data (it starts with 1.0000) since ae will interpret that as z pixels.

then select all of that and paste it into the position property of a null (or other layer) and see if that works.

I have transferred the data from Pftrack text file to Ae.

Here is the file which may help you to understand:

From the above file, Copy:

Adobe After Effects 8.0 Keyframe Data

Units Per Second 29.97
Source Width 1
Source Height 1
Source Pixel Aspect Ratio 1
Comp Pixel Aspect Ratio 1

Transform Position
Frame X pixels Y pixels Z pixels
1 888.8 646.3 0
2 889.5 646.2 0
3 889.6 646.2 0

End of Keyframe Data

But I think the tracking data is incomplete as it is just for three frames.
