Foundry Camera Tracker problem with camera solve
on Nov 6, 2012 at 8:46:45 pm

Hi all

I seem to have an odd problem with the plugin Camera tracker

everything seems to be working fine until I try to create a scene.

1) Tracking the footage was tough as most tracks were in the red until I fiddled with the hue saturation and levels to make it easier which seems to have somehow helped get great green quality tracking markers.

2) Pressing solve was an issue for a while but following suggested steps I was able to get a decent solve.... however...

3) when I press 'create scene' the following pop-up appears:
"Warning, Solve the camera position first before creating a scene"

Anyone else had this? the solve is coming up fine and without issues yet no matter what I do this message comes up?

any help much appreciated!

I ad to stop using the Foundry Camera Tracker when I switched from my Mac Pro to my HP Z820. Whenever I would hit solve, AE would hang. I spent 2 weeks troubleshooting this with the Foundry with no resolution. Luckily the AE Camertracker does the job for me.

Unfortunately I'm using CS5 and have to get a very precise track so need to find a solution for this :(

I also have had no luck from the foundry. But its just odd that there is nothing but praise for the plugin everywhere and the footage I am tracking is very very simple (tripod locked off and High def) no trouble with getting a solve just with the software not recognizing I have gotten one!

Jeremy

Try to use Mocha for AE. It comes with AE CS5 and gives you a good track.

There are many tutorials on YouTube which will help you to learn it quickly.

I've had occasional problems with the Foundry Camera Tracker and CS5.5 when using HDV footage, and things went a lot smoother once I reimported the footage as ProRes, so maybe it's not a fan of long-gop footage. Having said that, once Camera Tracker started crashing when trying to solve a clip, it seemed to keep doing so until I removed the effect from the clip and started again from scratch (maybe it's caching the results somewhere?).

Hi all thanks for the replies,

I don't think its a footage issue though.. I'm using a jpeg sequence and the tracker is getting a decent track from the look of it just something wrong with camera tracker that even though it is "solving" the track, it does not realise it has done so when I press 'create scene' so just tells me to solve it first..

even from scratch its the same. I have started the whole project even from scratch a few times now and same result. I'm pretty sure its something silly like a setting that has to be changed somewhere but cannot locate it. My last resort is to re-install but I thought someone would have an idea on this? This is a very simple track and if I resort to using something else to track then the plugin is useless and a wasted £200! ;)

My problems with the Foundry Cameratracker were not related to media type. We tested about 10 different kinds and the issue remained.

I ended up deleting it from my system and taking a major financial loss.

The irony is that it works just fine on my Mac Pro, but not on my brand new HP Z820, which runs CS6 and all the other plugins I have just fine. :/

Hi Tom,

I remember your post about it at the time. Did you ever manage to find out whether the problem was an incompatibility with CS6 or with the PC? I'm still running CS5.5 on a Mac and, apart from the occasional hiccup with certain media, Camera Tracker has always worked well for me. I do wonder how much effort the Foundry will put into maintaining it now that Adobe has bundled their tracker into CS6 though.

Like I said, I ended up removing it from my PC. Weeks spent troubleshooting with Foundry was fruitless. And they said that I was only one of a few folks having issues.

I think since AE includes a free tracker that they wont be selling a lot of their tracker and therefore wont spend the time to fix a problem only happening to a very few folks.

I kept getting the same error and i finally got Cameratracker to solve it by trimming my layer that i was tracking. I had a fade on my quicktime in the beginning and i think the lack of information when it went completely black was throwing it off. After that it solved fine and gave me my camera

My clips were clean with no effects or fades. Im using the AE camera tracker for simple stuff and Syntheyes when supervised tracking is needed. I dont miss The Foundrys version at all. :D
