"a 15 sec video" is a broad description - what is the frame size, the frame rate and the final delivery codec?
For best results you should use a compression package like Adobe Media Encoder. This will provide a 2pass variable bit rate (VBR)compression for smaller files with better quality.

hi

thanks for the reply.

the video is 604x360(at25fps) and they want it as an mp4, i beleive for display on hand held devices.

I dont have media encoder but has found some free software which gets it down to 1mb and the quality is almost good.

is possible to get it smaller ? what would the point be ?

this what they gave me

MP4 (video)

mp4: 640x360 15sec

As compressed as possible without losing image quality. Do not exceed
100kb maximum

You can go down to 15, even 12 fps and that would cut the size- however 100kb seems really small.

would you drop the frame rate in the compressor or in the edit ?

Chris

Try out some conversion software like Total Video Converter. This will give you variety of options to convert file in various codecs and with different bit rate and many other options.

This sounds that they have no idea what they're doing because that size is impossible if you wan't that resolution not losing image quality.

i think you are correct.

using handbrake i got it to 98kb but it looks shit.

At 1mb it looks pretty good and even at around 500kb the results are acceptable.

thanks for your input.

dont get all this bollox in TV land .......

I'm not surprised it look bad.

When you compress video, you throw away information about the image: motion, resolution, color accuracy, etc. The more you compress, the worse it looks... and you're being asked to throw away a boatload of information.
