[George Loch]"Is there no way to place 3D tracking points in the new CS6 tracker?
Nope! However, if your tracked points are on the same plane as where youwould like to place an object, then you should be able to offset the target area, which you define by MANUALLY selecting three or more tracked points which creates a Target Area (that strange dartboard thingy). You then move your cursor to the center of the Target Area until a four-pointed icon appears below the cursor. In this selection mode, you will be able to offset the position of the Target Area along the plane where it currently resides.
You could of course do this offsetting later, after creating your Solid/Null/Text but this method is more precise and doesn't require that the view axis modes view is set correctly to accomodate the desired offset.
A good tip is to increase the contrast of your tracking plate in a precomp. This routine usually provides the tracking algorithm with more areas to track; resulting in more tracked points.
