I'm using Camera lens blur with a Zdepth pass from C4D. But when I apply it it gives a big halo around the things that should actually be in focus.

Can you post a shot of your depth pass?

C4D requires a bit of work to get a proper depth pass -- it's really a blur map (black is sharp, white is blurry). If you want a depth pass, you need to set the C4D camera's focus distance beyond the last, deepest object in your scene, and set the front blur to before the first, shallowest object in your scene.

C4D's front blur and rear blur are measured relative to the target distance.

Here's the depth pass

I'm pretty sure it's accurate and even if it wasn't I should be able to adjust the depth setting in the effect.

That looks right -- though it's pretty dense; not a lot of depth on this frame.

Have you tried Frischluft Lenscare instead of Camera Lens Blur?
