Resize object from another point?
on Aug 26, 2012 at 7:24:02 pm

Hi,

Another mental block. How to I resize an object from the top, without it affecting the bottom?

i.e. I have a rectangle shape layer. It sits on an axis of a graph. I want to pull down the top and keep the bottom sitting on the x axis. However, when I pull the handles down on the top, it affects the bottom too, lifting it from the axis.

MR. Lower

Whenever we scale any object, it will affect both the direction along X and Y axis i.e. top and bottom or right and left respectively.

You have to adjust the position of the Rectangle Shape Layer after resizing.

If you want to have this feature then you can go for another way to create rectangle shape.

1. Make a solid layer.
2. Apply Rectangular Mask.

Now this will work as a rectangle shape layer and you can change the shape in any direction you want just by manipulating the mask shape.

Change Anchor Point location to the bottom using the Pan Behind tool.

Here's a 'name your own price' script, repositionAnchorPoint that you might find handy for quickly adjusting the anchor point for scaling purposes.

Just curious John - how is that script different from the pan behind tool?

It's not really. In prior versions before anchor point snapping, it was a lot quicker to use the script and snap the anchor point to the top of a layer, a corner or center. I still use it and for me, find it a bit quicker to use the script to snap my anchor point to a position rather than try and drag it to where I want it to go.
