I have some cogs. I am trying to get the anchor point centred in the middle of the cog but there is nothing to go on - no marker. How do I get the anchor point to perfectly centre do you think so the cog turns seamlessly.

Which application did you use to create the cogs or are they stock imagery?

My illustrator did them in ai. I don't have access to ai.

You may get what you want by typing the layer's width and height values and then dividing by 2.

You have to choose layer size when you import them, though.

I assume that individually each cog was not centered in the canvas when he created them and that you have a multi-layered AI file and that you imported the file as a composition WITHOUT selecting the Retain Layer Sizes option.

If yes to all of the above then select the Retain Layer Sizes option when you import the AI file as a composition. If I'm way off then please do us a favor and provide more info, including a snapshot of your timeline and the comp panel.

If you import the AI file (assuming the cogs are on separate layers) as a composition - layer size- if you create a new comp and then drag each layer individually in the timeline you should get each layer perfectly centered with the anchor point right in the middle.

I'm not sure this will be of benefit to you(some of the other suggestions may work better for this situation) but there is a "name-your-price" script at AEScripts that will reposition the anchor point of layers.

Thanks. Got illustrator to add in cross hairs in AI, but still not perfect. It'll do!
