AE7

A lot of my graphics are basically invisble when imported as footage, because they are black graphics w/alpha channel and the backdrop of the thumbnail is black also.

Is there a setting for default footage background colors? (not comps)

I don't think so. You can also use ALT+4 to view the associated Alpha Channel or use the Toggle Transprency Grid button/feature.

Mr. Chard
Footage with alpha channel always have black color by default(as black means hidden portion) and can't be changed.
Its better to go with Mr. Kahlenberg's advice.

That kinda blows, when you want to see the thumbnail in the Project window.

Thanks for the verification: did they fix this in later versions of AE, or is it a feature request.

An all-black thumbnail is really not much help to the user.
