Handheld videocamera simulation.

Hi guys and girls,

I have an offlined movie, shot on an Sony EX1. The footage looks great, but I wish to add the very slight and random movement that one sees in small handheld camcorder footage.

Is there an already tried and tested and effective way of doing this in After Effects using an expression to give it a random and authentic look?

Thanks in advance to anybody who can help me with this.

TJ

I guess you can use the wiggle statement to do this.

Yes. Get some handheld footage, track it, and apply its motion to your original, too-stable footage. You will need to scale the footage up a bit to prevent the added shake from revealing the raster boundaries on-screen.

You can use wiggle expression to give random movement but it will be too Rigid. To make it smooth and floaty read the comments by John in this link:

This will make your camera movement smooth and more realistic.

Video Copilot has software called Twitch that does a great job of creating the "hand held" effect.
