After Effects CS6 Keylight Mask issues

I've noticed a bug (at least I think it's a bug) when you use Keylight 1.2v14 and an animated mask.

Basically what I was doing was taking a blue screen element and getting rid of all the extra garbage in the
frame using shape layers and masks. When I take that layer, move it into a comp and then key it with Keylight 1.2v14 parts of the frame seem to drop out. Not the whole frame, certain areas.

Any ideas? Is there a fix or workaround without precomposing?

I also noticed that when using the "inside mask" in Keylight I get a different kind of artifacting where the whole image disappears what seems randomly but I believe is related to masking also.

Thanks

Fred

What happens if you only use masks - ie do not use shape layers?

Hi Fred,

I am just posting since we know each other through Stu.

I consider keylight buggy anyway. I use it to create mattes and fills separately and almost never use the final result inside of keylight since most of my work includes several custom mattes and masks to get the comp and keys to look their best. Much of my matte work and keying for that matter is outside of Keylight. I do use it to color correct my fills sometimes as well but often creating a perfect matte is a combination of mattes generated with keylight as well as other keyers and custom masks. Just sayin',,,

Yeah.....nothing is perfect. The I've actually switched over to Primatte as my primary process screen keyer.
I can't remember the last time I pulled a key with no futzing......THere's always SOMETHING to be masked.....I try to avoid the "cut and paste" fest whenever I can though...
I can't wait to do a project with you....
