Want to blur distracting background behind interview subject

This is probably simple enough for AE power users. I'm using AE CS4 and I have a :09 interview clip -- a bust shot with a rather busy mural in the background. I'd like to blur the mural in the background and keep the subject sharp.
I had the idea I might need a matte and freeze framed a shot from the interview, imported it into Photoshop (CS4 as well) and marqueed around the subject, filled that in to use for a matte. I imported the interview clip and the matte I'd created into AE but I can't seem to figure out what to do to make this all work.
I'm thinking I'll have to keyframe the mask a little because, as anyone would, the interview subject moved a little bit.

Thanks for the help!

You're on the right track. It's called "rotoscoping" and you can find quite a few tips and tutorials on the subject here and elsewhere. Basically, it's just drawing masks and keyframing but if you're new to it then you should definitely study up on it first to save you some time and headaches.
