Import Illustrator Groups into AE

Yo,

Does anyone know of a way to import groups or layers that have sub-layers from Illustrator into AE as precomps? Like in PS if you make a folder with layers inside it AE will import is as a precomp, but with Illustrator it's just one sold layer. Please tell me that there is a way to do this. I'm very tired of separating my groups into individual layers in Ai.

Thanx

See Illustrator's Release to Layers feature [link] to relieve the tedium.

I did find out about that little trick and that is very helpful, BUT it sure would be a lot more helpful if AE turned a layer with sub layers into a precomp. Not possible I'm very sadly assuming?
