Tons of Computing Power...SLOW rendering in After Effects.

I have 24 Gigs of RAM, plenty of storage space, an AMD FX (tm)-6100 Six-Core Processorrunning at 3.3 Ghz and After Effects renders so slowly that I'm going to go mad. I have allocated 5 cores and 21 gigs of ram to rendering but still...

Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit btw.

Tell us more about what, exactly, you are rendering and what your relevant preference settings are.

I am rendering a project with quite a few HD assets and layers. I have 19 GB of ram allocated for adobe programs and I have checked the box for multiple frames. In there I have 3 of my 6 cores dedicated and 3gb of ram per each.

Does that answer your question?

[Christopher Hobson] "I have 24 Gigs of RAM... I have allocated 5 cores and 21 gigs of ram to rendering but still..."

You might get better results allocating more than 3GB of RAM to other applications. Try bumping that up to 8GB.

Watch the Performance Monitor during render -- Control-Shift-Esc to bring up the task manager, then click the performance tab. Pay attention to CPU and RAM usage. What happens to each during render?

I have 19 GB dedicated to the program. No other programs are open during rendering. When I watch the performance monitor while rendering my cpu is at 95% + and my ram is around 35% for usage.

I have attached a screenshot of my settings.

Thanks so much for your help!

[Christopher Hobson] "When I watch the performance monitor while rendering my cpu is at 95% + and my ram is around 35% for usage"

Then that's about the best you can expect to get.

If the CPU usage were lower, then there may have been a bottleneck elsewhere, but since the CPU is very nearly fully utilized during render, your CPU itself is the bottleneck. Unfortunately, your six-core AMD FX 6100 runs about half as fast as last year's quad-core Intel Core i7-2600.
