Does CS6 After Effects support 3D objects
on Jun 4, 2012 at 8:00:31 am

Hello,

I'm aware of the new 3D text effects and ray tracing in AE6. But I haven't found if a simple 3D object can be imported and animated/rendered?

I'm thinking of the lines and dot animation done for the film:

The Art of Flight https://vimeo.com/34334935

I read it was dopne in Cinema4D, but the new features in AE6 could streamline the process.

Thanks

At this point AE does not support import of 3d objects.
Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro can import 3d files though.

The lines and dots that you are referring to however can be done in AE using another plugin: Plexus.

To be short and direct- because it was a pain to work with.
Long term answer- with all the new 3d implemented in AE, one can only envision that Adobe is planning to build in new 3d features in the next versions.
For now there is AtomKraft (just launched the beta)or the reliable Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro (or Animator)

I recall importing a Sketchup model into AE 5.5.

[niccolo ungaro] "By the way there must be some explenation from Adobe....No?"

The new ray tracer is a pretty significant development on its own; adding support for 3D objects would further involve substantial geometry and shader support. I certainly understand why you would want those features, but I hope you can also understand that developing them is non-trivial.

That said -- tell Adobe what you want via a feature request [link]. They do read them all, and the more detail you can include about what you want and how you would want it to work, the more helpful it will be the development team.

Thank you all for your links & explanations.
When I start my little learning of AF I was fascinated about 3D & I tested as Mr.Dale Kutzera the nice roundtrip - Sketchup - Photoshop - AF.
I was never convinced as my friend Mr. Ted Jelescu that Zaxwerks could be a better solution to the real 3D integration in AF and I found Photoshop 3d live very tricky & difficult (but with some great gratification)to. Now with C4D - Photoshop - AF - Mocha... after some training is getting a little-bit better. And these tools work together in a fantastic way!
At the moment I am not so interested in AFCS6 also wile with my graphic card I can not take full advantage of these new release.
I'm sure (& hope) that soon AF will offer better solutions regarding these issue.
Thank you all Creative Cow, Friends & Adobe.....natürlich
Ciao Nic.
