I noticed my system drive (Mac OSX 10.6.8) was filling up, so I used "GrandPerspective," a utility which makes a graphic view of the size of your files. To my surprise, a large part of my system drive is occupied by files from obsolete projects. The files take these two forms:

users/(MyUserName)/Library/Caches/Adobe/After Effects CS4/Media Cache Files/
users/(MyUserName)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache Files/Filename.ac3

1. Can I safely delete these files? (especially since I'm using CS5.5 now)
2. Is there a utility within my Adobe programs which will find and delete these files for me with some degree of automation and precision?

You can remove cache files from the Prefs dialog. You may also delete obsolete cfa files if they somehow do not get deleted via the Prefs dialog button.
