Hi, Im currently shooting a short film (on a Canon 600d, Pal, 25 fps) that needs a fair bit of tweaking in A.E., masking, c.correction etc. I need to get it back into Premier after tweaking it in A.E. for editing & such like, could anyone tell me the best way of doing this?

My current way of doing it is this...

1) Convert raw 600d footage to Mpeg in Adobe Media Encoder.

2) Alter the Mpeg footage as desired in A.E. & render to comp.

3) Re-Convert comp back to Mpeg in Adobe M. Encoder & edit in Premier.

Is this a good way of dealing with it?, Is there a better way?. I was told that you cant use A.E. on raw DSLR footage as its incompatable, any truth in this?

Thanks for your time. Jon.

I would consider doing the edit with the unfinished footage first, for two reasons.

First, there is no sense in doing a lot of effects work on a shot that will end up on the cutting room floor.

Second, some of the work you'll have to do (like color grading) is more easily done in the context of the surrounding shots.

Once you've got your edit done, you might try using AE/Pr's dynamic link feature [link].
