Hello there,

Currently working with RED converted files in ProRes HQ 1080p.
I'm just wondering if my worflow is correct.

I edit in FCP 7 and export the Fx Clips for AE CS5 in the same ProRes HQ.
I do my fx work then go back in FCP exporting in ProRes HQ... again.

I've always asked myself if I was doing the right thing.
As I always worked as a freelance, I learned every method by myself. Never worked in production companys so I figured it out some workflows.

Should I export in an other less destructive way ?

Thanks a lot.

Don't Sweat it. Your workflow is fine. There isn't any less "destructive" way to do it, and in fact I challenge you to spot any differences at all in image quality. ProRes HQ rendered just once should be identical to pristine ProRes HQ.

By way of comparison, you have to RE-render plain ol' ProRes 422 six generations deep before any image degradation appears... and who'd do THAT?
