gaps in a complex mask - how to join vertices
on Feb 1, 2012 at 6:00:15 pm

Hi,

I have just been creating a complex bezier mask with the pen tool. When I got to the end I found I couldn't close the path. It turns out the are a couple of gaps in the path (I must have Cmd-clicked by mistake). Is there a way to close these gaps? Either by merging/combining vertices?

The mask took me ages to do an I don't want to have to start again.

Thanks!

I never knew that you could have multiple gaps within a single mask path - are you certain that you have only one mask?

BTW, to close just a single part
1) with the selection tool, select the last vertex you drew
2) switch to the pen tool and click on the first vertex you drew

Hi there,

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. The gaps caused the creation of three separate masks which I need to just be one mask.

I found a work around by copying the paths into Illustration and using the Join Vertices function to close the gaps by highlighting the two points I wanted to join. I then copied the path back in to AE.

I find it a bit odd the AE doesn't seem to have this function. Hey-ho.

using illustrator as a stepping stone is the best method i have found as well... the AE path tool is missing some key features. Lets hope adobe looks at these forums.
