Please describe your issue in more detail.

Is it not storing or is it deleting one as you try to preview another?

You're probably just running out of RAM... check your processes and see if AE is taking all your system has for it.

Once I stop playing the ram preview, it deletes the whole thing and I have to rerender if I want to watch the preview. Any ideas? Is it just a checkbox hidden somewhere?

The range of frames that are cached to RAM are depicted within a green line at the top of the Timeline. Occasionally, you will see a blue line which indicates that the underlying frames are cached to the HD.

Upon completing a RAM Preview, you should see the green line. If you made changes to a layer or change the hierarchy of layers in the Timeline, then AE will discharge the contents of the RAM.

Try trashing your AE prefs and seeing if that fixes it.

Have you done any changes to your system recently? Installed any software, done any updates, etc?

I've never really understood the RAM caching. Sometimes it vanishes without me doing anything. And even more annoying, sometimes it WILL NOT vanish when I DO change something... then when I play back, some frames are rendered right, and some frames play back as if I hadn't made the change...
