Write On Animating Arrow Showing Rotation
on Jan 12, 2012 at 7:34:24 pm

Hello,
Ive read several post on here about the write on effect and attacting it to the position of a arrow tip so that it will grow and fallow the tip. However I was wondering if it was possible to attach the brush position of the write on effect to a arrow tip that is rotating. I would like to show a arrow basically that is rotating in 3/4 of a circle. But I can't figure out how to make the write on effect fallow the rotation :

http://lesterbanks.com/2011/07/projecting-parenting-from-layer-to-world-com...

check that out. basically you are going to need to set a null at the point of the arrow, parent the null to the arrow layer then use the expression in the write on's position to use the world position of the null.

I've used this before to connect puppet points to other layers so other layers can stretch and distort one layer.

Wow first let me thank you for taking the time to answer this question for me. Second maybe I didn't explain my question right : What I am looking for is the tail or the straight part coming out of the back of the arrow to grow behind the tip as it moves. I want to show a rotation motion with the arrow have it start on the left side and rotate about 300 degrees and have the line behind the arrow head grow and the arrow rotates behind it. I hope that makes sense

I think you should still be able to achieve this effect with the AEP I've supplied.

Just chop the end of the arrow off so all you have is the triangular head and place the null object on the base where you want the tail to go.
