well actually i have two problems.

(a) I have an HD avid project 5.1 audio.
I need to convert the video and audio to 24fps and dpx files.
The video seems easy. What about converting the audio?

also.

I dont seem to be able to get the QuickTime reference files to load into after effects. the QuickTime load fine. any thoughts?

To put it simply, AE stinks at audio. It's a VIDEO and FILM effects and compositing application, with limited audio capabilities.

You'll want to use something else. Precisely what "something else"? You have Avid, do you also have Pro Tools? Failing that, you'd need to enumerate your audio options.

DPX is a still image format. When video or effects people talk about DPX, they're generally referring to an image sequence, which is a set of files with one image file for every frame in a movie.

DPX doesn't carry audio, so you'd have to find out what your expected deliverable format is.
