Grey picture on DV-PAL .mov import through cs3

Hi all..
I am having an odd issue with AE CS3. Running on an old P$ with Windows 7. I am importing 2 .mov's that were given to me by a film transfer shop. One would expect them to be delivered in a consistent format, but alas, these are not. One file (1.mov) loads perfectly. The second file (2.mov) shows only grey, both in the little preview pane in the project window and in the composition. Wierdly, when I open the movie within After Effects into its own fullsize preview window, the movie plays fine.

1.mov is referred to as type 'Video for Windows Movie' in the project window within AE, has no compression, but DV-PAL aspect ratio.
2.mov is referred to as type 'Quicktime Movie' and where 1.mov shows 'no compression', 2.mov file is marked DV-PAL. It is also in DV-PAL aspect ratio.

I guess people can get from my ease of description and my terminology that I am an After Effects whiz so couldn't possibly need help, but this is misleading as I am a complete newbie and need help desperately. (Xmas emergency)

So thanks for any little scraps of help you can toss my way.
Yours,
Nick.

Download Quicktime 7 for Windows.

DO NOT download Quicktime X for windows, if such a thing exists.

That's it? I'll give it a whirl when I'm home. That is an easy fix.

Thank you.

Hi..
So the updated quicktime plug-ins didn't work. Nothing different to report.
I thought this was a sure thing. I'm fairly sure its a codec issue, but I have no idea how to add to After Effects functionality.
So please, any more solutions??
Thanks

Do you have any other applications you could use to transcode to the uncooperative media file to a format you know AE supports?
