Hi all,

I'm interested in getting an affect similar to the shield practice scenes in David Lynch's DUNE:

@1:20 in this clip:

Kind of a rectangular force field that tracks with live action subjects.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

As far as how they did it- match moving rectangular shapes in a 3d program most likely and compositing on top with a distortion and blur for the interior of the shapes.
In AE, one way of doing it would be to use Mocha to track various parts of the body, apply the data to layers, make those 3d and offset in z space, then link simple 3d rectangular volumes to those layers using Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro and composite using blending modes and blur.

Another idea would be to use Plexus to generate extruded shapes.
