Hey guys, many of you know that I like to experiment with the new 3d plugins for AE.
Here's my latest, using FreeForm Pro and ShapeShifter AE. The budget was low, the client wanted big style but could afford only stock photos. I generated 3d displacement and animated the texture and depth map to put some life in the stills I was provided. Check it out:

Ted,

Please delete this thread before any of my clients see it. :) Wow, great work.

Tutorial worthy(hint, hint). But if you don't have the time for a tutorial, let me see if I'm understanding what you have done. You took the photos into photoshop, painted a depth matte and then used that to displace in Freeform and mettle. Finally you apply the pictures back as textures.

The blonde girl at :18 seconds, is that just once instance of Freeform/shapeshifter? The depth on the outstetched elbow is really amazing.

Again---very very nice, everyone in my office is extremely impressed..

Thanks John (and Brian), that pretty much sums it up (the process you described). I worked at 16 bit, and went between PSD and AE several times, "sculpting" each depth map. The photo became the texture, with animated elements inside a precomp, and if there were any shape movements (eg hand moving, foot tapping...), then the same animation was applied to the depth map. The blond woman is just one instance of FreeForm Pro, with the depth given by the depth map. On the african-american man with shades I had a different layer with FF Pro for the arm.

Outstanding work, Ted -- thanks for sharing, and thanks for really showing off what FreeForm Pro and ShapeShifter can do in the right hands!
