hello, I've corner pinned a layer in Mocha and brought it into AE which works beuatifully. Only problem is I need to mask a the shape so that its not a perfect rectangle. When I apply a mask there is crazy distortion on it, is there an expression or script or something that can sort this out?

Having you tried precomping the layer before applying the mask?

It's only work if you'd rather be doing something else...

I guess I don't fully understand what it is you're trying to achieve.

Basically the corner pin data is tracking a perfect rectangle, im comping it onto a photograph with a little crease at the top, making the shape a litte bent at the top. I just want to be able to deform the rectangle slightly in the middle but still have the corners track as is.

Does that make sense?

If I were tracking a rectangle in some footage so I could apply the corner pin data to a photo, I would just prepare the photo (photoshop, whatever) so that it was already creased before applying the tracking data, using transparency where necessary.

But perhaps I still don't get it. It's late, and I've had a couple of beers... ;-)

Use Mocha for the masking as well as the corner pin! Mocha is designed to act this way. You motion track to get the right movement (via corner pin, for instance) but then you can use that tracking data to create an accurate rotoscope of the area where the properly moving footage is placed.

Two exports from Mocha: one with the corner pin, one with the mask. Obviously you'll have to do some extra work in Mocha to make the mask, but it's soooooo much easier in Mocha than in AE.

Good points Ben. I just want to add that for non-rectangular inserts, Mocha's Align to Surface feature is ideal.

Ya I was thinking something along those lines might be best, it's about time I learned some more Mocha anyway. Thanks guys
