I get an error when I try to render a cineform quicktime file from
After Effects CS5.

What's really got me puzzled is that:
I can render cineform avi files from AE CS5
I can render cineform quicktime from AE CS4
I can render cineform quicktime from Premiere CS5

It's only AE CS5 where I'm having the problem.
Unfortunately it's where I create and finish most of my work.
I need the file in quicktime for import into CineAsset, a DCDP encoding software.

I've been getting this error message recently, though I'm on a Mac and am rendering to PNG Quicktime files. However, I am working with Raw RED 32-bit files (.R3D files).

One thing I noticed was that the error wouldn't happen while I was working, or with shorter renders. So when rendering, I run an app called "Jiggler" which jiggles the mouse every minute or so, to keep everything on the computer awake. I have run multiple, lengthy renders from the UI while running Jiggler and have never seen the error arise.

Once when rendering from the command line, I received the error, even with Jiggler running.

I know there are similar apps for PC. Please try running it while rendering, and let us know what happens. My guess is that this has something to do with how the RED codecs work, that they are somehow "going to sleep" after a period of [relative] inactivity, and the Jiggler keeps the RED codec running....

Thanks for the info Ben. Although the error message is similar, it sounds like a different issue. My render fails almost immediately when launched. I tested mouse movement anyway, but it still fails. Thanks for the help anyway.
Solid motion graphics reel too.

Thanks for the info, yes I've also been in contact with Cineform support and have had limited success.
If I export the quicktime with RGBA channel premultiplied, trillions of colors, and 4:4:4 color depth, it will export a file.
Unfortunately I've experienced some strange color artifacts with these settings, and that has not been successfully resolved.
