First thing I noticed when working for AE CS 5.5 for the first time is that the darn keystrokes all changed! Even Make Movie my old familiar Command M is now Minimize the window. What the...

Any way to restore the old keystrokes or is this old dog due to learn a whole new slew of shortcuts?

I started in AE when it was still Cosa, BTW...this keystroke shortcut thing is a drag to an old dog like me!

Uncheck Preferences > General > Use System Shortcut Keys.

Personally, I'm trying to adjust to the new default settings, but it still frightens me a bit every time I forget and tap Cmd-H to replace footage, and AE instantly vanishes...

The changed preference setting that Walter mentioned is likely what you're experiencing. Not a single keyboard shortcut was changed between After Effects CS5 and After Effects CS5.5, though a few were added.
