I need to sinc audio to animation. Is there a way to hear audio frame by frame? I need to place lots of little markers in the time line and having a hard time doing it by looking at the wave form. Thanks!

Hold the command/ctrl key down while dragging the timeline around and you'll hear samples of the sound at the current time.

Press the period key on the numeric keypad, this will play the audio without rendering any animation.

Use the asterisk key on the numeric keypad while the sound previews to place markers for your cue points.

If you're using a laptop without a numeric keypad, the keyboard shortcuts are listed under Composition > Preview and Layer > Add Marker.

Note that the asterisk key adds a marker to selected layers only. I will often put in a layer, turn off its visibility, and use is exclusively for layer markers. You might even want more than one layer for this is you're trying to sync multiple elements....
