How to create silverscreen film
on Aug 19, 2011 at 3:12:03 pm

Was wandering if anyone could tell me the best way to convert digital film to a more black and white silverscreen look. I want to create a creature film in the style of movies like dracula, wolfman, creature from black lagoon. These arent real scratching tarnished films but still hold a classic vintage look. Any software/tutorial suggestions are appreciated!

Try to separate color channels and then do a custom combination.
COlor channels are very useful when they are separated.
U can also try some plugins from Digital film tools than can simulate this look.
I'd recommend a photoshop action tho'
I guess u r talking about Film noir.

AE CS5 added the new Black & White effect [link], which allows you to mix color channels into a monochrome image in a single effect.

yeap true this.
Alternatively I'd recommend some custom color extraction using lumma / color range and then selectively tinted to B/W .
this reminds me when i was developing color negative but printed on b/w paper.
